Yeah, I know...no one is reading this blog anymore due to my shocking lack of posting...I have no excuse. Well, I have no *good* excuse...but for those of you still checking my blog (hi mom!), I thought I would give you an update on the fam:

Caden is raising heck more every day, but is darn cute when he spontaneously hugs/kisses mom or decides to share his toys (gasp) with his sister.

Skylar is now talking up a storm, and let's be honest, is pretty sassy! She is so much more of a handful than Caden was at this age...her favorite hobby right now is getting as messy at possible, usually from playing in the dirt in the backyard.

Josh is still in school and getting ready to go into finals. BOO!!! Finals are seriously of the devil, but after this round, year one of law school is done! Yay!!! Shoot...two more to go.

Aubrey is taking care of munchkins and working at Pottery Barn...I know, you're jealous, right? But unfortunately, she is a really bad blogger who never posts about anything!

And what you really came for:

Aubrey at Ragnar, my first long distance race since high school. Awesome.

Daddy built and painted birdhouses with the kiddos...we have yet to actually *utilize* said birdhouses, but they are darn cute!

Caden has a girlfriend. I'm pretty sure they are getting married.

Can somebody tell me how I have a 4 year-old??? When did this happen??? More importantly, when did he get so BIG???

He is so hilarious, he keeps us laughing (sometimes not "ha ha funny", more of the "ha ha you are in so much trouble")...the other day he was being pretty crazy and so daddy threatened him with a spanking. Thinking super quick and with hands raised to the defense told dad "Let's just get one thing straight!!! I DO NOT LIKE SPANKINGS!" Josh was laughing so hard that he obviously didn't recieve said spanking. (c:

He is totally obsessed with trains, too (I mean, what kid isn't???)...that is pretty much how we keep both of the little crazies busy most of the time. And while of course they don't get along all the time, he is a pretty great big brother and enjoys torturing...er, I mean *playing* with his little sister, even when she destroys EVERYTHING he ever builds. We can't help but be a little (okay, maybe a lot) proud of him and we LOVE that he is part of our family.

I really wish we had been more creative for Halloween this year, but between school, work, kids, and well, life in general, I felt a little unmotivated! I mean, we didn't even take the kids real trick-or-treating (it was sunday and we figured they won't remember anyway, right?)...I know...we are busy scarring our kids for life. But they had a blast at the trunk or treat at church and Caden was busy telling us that "everyone thought I was AWESOME" because of his motocross costume and his 4 wheeler that he got to ride to the church. Skylar was less than impressed with her costume, she was telling Daddy "NO PRETTY!! NO PRETTY!!" when he tried to put it on because we told her it was a pretty costume and apparently she also wanted a motocross costume. *sigh* So much for my little princess, huh? (c:

Our Halloween dinner this year didn't turn out near as cool as when Debbie (my MIL) does it, she always does something really cool and creative (and I love that she does it and I don't have to! Love ya Mom!)...but we tried to make it special because it was doubling as Skylar's birthday party. It was actually a lot of fun and the kids were going crazy on a sugar high by the end...a success, right? Right.

It's little Skylar's birthday today and I can't believe my little girl is already two! It seems like yesterday that we were deciding on baby names. She is such an active little thing and talking/babbling up a storm. Sometimes we wish we could get her to sit and be quiet for just 30 seconds, but then we remember that someday soon she will be a teenager that won't talk to us at all and we are grateful for the constant "mommy!!!daddy!!!mommy!!!daddy!!!" (c: She is a typical two year-old that wants to do everything by herself...get her food/drinks, pick out clothes/shoes, put in dvds...which she is obsessed with "How To Train Your Dragon" and "Up" right now (only she calls them the "dinosaur" and the "doggie"). She and Caden are pretty good friends (except when they're not) and she pretty much thinks her brother is awesome. We love our little Sky Sky and are so glad to have her in our little family.

is a very short list...*BUT* it has definitely been growing as we are enjoying (mostly) our new experience of living in a new place, with new people, and without our wonderful families. (wiping a little tear from the corner of my eye) We have gotten settled in our new abode and I can almost get where I need to go without a GPS! (almost) Josh is chugging along at school and cursing the day he got the thought "Hey, maybe 3 more years of school would be a good idea..." (c: Caden set the record for fastest to be banned from nursery (no, I'm not kidding, but that is a story for another time, or never) and is looking oh-so-grown-up in Sunbeams. (wiping another little tear) Skylar is taking the move like a champ...besides getting more and more "two year-old like" every day. And I don't mean that in a good way, more in a "throwing tantrums, talking back, and torturing Caden" kind of way. (c: We very, *very* much miss all our dears back in the Burque, but we think we will do just fine on our own. Do I sound convincing yet?

Things I know:

Caden is absolutely OBSESSED with trains...these pics are from Santa Fe and the trip to/from on the Rail Runner. You might think moving would calm his passion, but quite the contrary...now we live even closer to train tracks!

These little guys can seriously cut a rug (as demonstrated at the Abq Aquarium) and actually really like each other. Big sigh of relief. (c:

Skylar *L*O*V*E*S* to talk...not that she actually says anything...but loves it. And telephones. Because they facilitate the talking, natch. See? I'm already picking up the local lingo...not really. (c:

Skylar is also super silly...I'm sure she gets it from someone besides me...maybe

Caden loves soccer gear...no, not soccer...just the gear. Especially if it belongs to his cousin Rylee. Thanks Rylee!

And we ALL know now that the only way to be outside in good ol' AZ is if you are in a pool...even if it's the inflatable one on the back porch!

Me: No, you don't have to be married, you can go in when you're twelve.
Caden: I'm not twelve yet...but I'll be big soon!

Caden: And then I'll get married in the temple! When I'm big like daddy! And when Skylar is big like you, then I will take her to the temple and marry her.

They are so relaxing and the kids love it...thank goodness there are the Jemez so close by! We entertained ourselves hiking around, eating a picnic, throwing rocks in the stream...I know, it's way too exciting! The Reluctant Graduate

So this is what we have been up to lately...getting Josh to graduate! I would be lying if I said that I was not SO RELIEVED that that part is OVER!!! Now for another three years...but we will think about that later. Josh did not want to go to his graduation ceremony at all, but someone *ahem* convinced him that it would be better to go, you know, for posterity and all. (c: I think he was glad he did, even if you can't tell from the pictures. Congrats Class of 2010!!!!

Auntie Cherish is visiting us from AZ and Caden is just in love with her...poor thing has not had a moments peace anytime he is awake! (c: This trip to the pool was no exception and he was serioulsy upset when it came time to go because his (and his sister's) lips were blue and he was shivering! What a strange kid. But hey, we have to be creative to keep these little ones entertained (even if they do get hypothermia)!

A Sad, Sad Day at the Edwards' House

Okay, so we had a family tragedy this week...Frank the Parakeet passed. )c: This happened on Tuesday and I am just now able to write about it. I am only being partly sarcastic because I actually did like that little bird and Caden (as previously discussed) was IN LOVE with it. It was a terrible event involving our miniature schnauzer...and Caden was devastated. We cried together for quite a while(Caden crying about Frank and Mom crying about Caden) and then had a small funeral. Some of you may be saying "it seems like only yesterday that Frank joined your family"...but it's been two whole weeks people!...plenty of time for Caden to become completely obsessed and now he won't stop talking about Frank and how he went to live with Jesus but he is coming back soon. *sigh* I think he is scarred for life. But I guess I should be glad that we got to have a little lesson about death when it was just a parakeet, right?

So this last weekend we had some Monster Truck tickets fall in our lap and Josh decided that this time around, it should be a family affair, Skylar and I included. Needless to say, I was not exactly excited about the prospect of attending said event. It made me feel a little better that it was a box and not right on the floor...but still, monster trucks, really??? Okay, here is the surprising part...I actually kinda *enjoyed* myself! They had the monster trucks, but then they had dirt bike and ATV races, too. They had little 4 and 6 year-olds on dirt bikes, how adorable is that? (c: But you know you are a mom when the kids have a crash and one of them is hurt and you are crying even though you have no idea who that kids is. I'm so embarrassing sometimes...(c: Anyways, it was actually a fun little night, so I concluded that I must be part white trash because I enjoyed a monster truck show...Josh disagrees...(c:

We were lucky enough to get invited by some friends to go see the "Walking with Dinosaurs" show (heaven knows I wasn't going to pay what they wanted for those tickets!!!) and it was pretty awesome. Caden was MESMERIZED the entire time...Skylar, well, after the initial shock/crying/clinging to mommy, she thought it was pretty cool, too. Sacrament Meeting Shout Out...

Another great memory...
As we were sitting in Sacrament Meeting on Sunday, I was *trying* to study my lesson for the 10 year-olds that I teach, but Caden was having none of it. He kept insisting on sticking his little fingers in the binding holes of my manual, right across where I was trying to read. After being told to stop repeatedly, I just resorted to brushing his hand away when he pulled his little attention-getting stunt. Finally, I was exasperated and swept his hand away with a little more force than the other times...you might call it a "swat". So, to "one-up" me, Caden shouted very loudly: "Hey, get the hell out of here!!!". Heads all around us snapped around, and we started hearing giggling, one of the sisters sitting behind my mother-in-law tapped her on the shoulder and asked, laughing, "Did he get that from Daddy or Grandpa?" and she answered "Probably Rusty, but you can take your pick!" Thank you Caden, thank you for keeping your mama humble and entertaining bored church-goers. (c:

No, we didn't, but I have seriously had absolutely no motivation to blog lately. Not from lack of news or pictures, just lact of motivation!!! Sad, I know. But this will be the catch-up of all catch ups...
Hannah went to Homecoming a couple of weeks ago and I agreed to do her hair, she was adorable, but when her date came to pick her up, Caden the streaker stole the show. In grandma's tennis shoes, no less...

Then it's been BALLON FIESTA!!! I love this time of year because #1 it's so fun and magical with all the ballons everywhere, and #2 because it starts feeling like FALL...ooooo, it's the best!!! The kids had so much fun with all the balloons that came our way...

Then we had the most fun of all with a visit from the Haymores! Caden loves nothing more than his bestest buddy, Rylee, and they had a blast at Explora, the zoo, and "camping" in Grandma's backyard....

We even had time for a little picture in a helicopter (Caden was obsessed with it) at the local Walmart "Fire Safety Day"...

Skylar is having a birthday at the end of the month and I can't believe she is already going to be one year old! She is getting in to absolutely EVERYTHING and loving every second! Caden of course keeps us laughing and this weekend was no exception with a quote from his new favorite movie "Meet the Robinsons":

Dad: Caden that is enough, I don't want you to do that anymore or you are going to be in trouble!
Caden: Don't sass me, boy, I know KARATE!!!

Yep, his other favorite quote that he like to use on us is "I know you're not a pigeon!"...yeah, it's really random, but darn funny at the same time!

Me: They went to take uncle Ethan up to Utah to be a missionary. He's going to the M-T-C (enunciating very carefully so he understands)

Caden: The M&M??
Me: No, the M-T-C (even slower)...
Caden: The M - see - see???
Me: No, the M - T - C, the missionary training center.
Caden: (exasperated and rolling his eyes) I *know* that!

I can't believe I haven't done a post in a month! Well, this weekend for labor day, we went up to Navajo Lake with Josh's family (everyone but Eli, who is on his mission in AL). We had a blast fishing, eating, sleeping, swimming, going to Durango, and almost killing the drunken partiers camped next to us...but that is a whole other story! of a truly amazing husband, father, friend and servant of our Heavenly Father.

My dear friend's husband, Kameron Haban, passed away this morning at 10am after a long and difficult fight with Lupus. Kameron was a generous, loving and incredible person. His wife, Jami, is a strong, faithful and just plain amazing woman who has been such a rock through this whole trial. His son, Kason, is a 2 1/2 year old who is so sweet, soft-spoken and tender-hearted. Jami and Kason are now left on this earth without their sweet husband and father. While they know they WILL be reunited with him, they are need of thoughts and prayers. I would also like to make a plea to everyone to help support this family in another way. Yes, that is Caden in his "big boy underwear"...and yes, potty training is the bane of my exisitence at this point! How in the heck does one keep their sanity with a two and a half year old that has just been asked 15 kajillion times if they need to sit on the potty and then says "I pee in my pants" two seconds later????? OR even worse..."mommy, I POOP". I'm pretty sure I need to STOP praying for patience because Heavenly Father is really trying to give it to me...and I'm really resisting...(c:

On a happier note...this is my little girl with HAIR!!! For those of you who haven't seen her in a while (I know this picture is terrible, stupid camera phone), she is getting the cutest little curls in the back...they look just like Caden's hair at that age *sniff*. Speaking of Caden, he went to run an errand with his grandma today (no potty catastrophe, thank GOODNESS) and they called me with a question and of course he wanted to talk to mommy...I had no idea how grown-up he would sound and of course I choked right up. And for the moment you've all been waiting for...my foot started hurting a couple months ago and I thought that I had a stress fracture or something, so naturally I refused to go to the doctor. Makes sense right? Well, surprisingly enough, not only did it not get better, but I got this weird lump on the top of my foot. So then I should have made a doctors appointment, right? NO. I just asked everyone in my family what they thought about it until Josh got sick of it and made me a doctors appointment. Well, it turned out I had what is called a Ganglion cyst on my foot that the best way to get rid of it is a little foot surgery...and these are the beautiful pictures I had Josh take because I was too chicken to look myself:

Okay, so I didn't write this...I stole it directly off of my Dad's blog, thanks daddy! (c: But I thought this was an AMAZING story that I actually hadn't heard and a fantastic reminder about why we get a day off each year in May to remember the heros that keep our nation free...

Thoughts on Memorial Day

As we celebrate Memorial Day and honor all those men and women who have defended threats to our American way of life, my thoughts turned to my Dad. He fought in the Korean war. He left college after one semester because he felt he was going to get drafted anyway. He was just a young kid fresh out of High School and a few months later he was in Korea. How about going from a kid with no cares to having to watch out for somebody trying to kill you? Makes you grow up fast!

I'm not sure how the heck they got my Dad to smile like this in a picture. I don't think I have even seen a picture where he was smiling this big except his wedding photo. Did they tell jokes? Did they threaten them? I don't know, but it is a great picture.

I think this is outside the barracks where he went through basic training.

This is Dad next to his "Willys Jeep" on a road near his outfit in Korea. He was stationed in what was called the "Punch Bowl". It was right on the front. From his position, he could see the communist (enemy) territory. He loved driving any kind of vehicle and told me that whenever they asked for volunteers to drive anything he would tell them he knew how to drive it. Then he would figure out how to drive whatever it was "on the fly". He was pretty good at it from his farm upbringing.

How would you like to live in this? If you look closely, you will notice it had about 4' - 5' of sandbags on the roof. The sandbags were in case a mortar shell made a direct hit on their bunker, they would have a better chance of survival.
This is Dad and Pete Bush, his Squad leader at this station. From things he wrote on the back of pictures, I think he thought well of Pete. Dad received the Bronze Star for taking command of his platoon when his commander was killed during an attack. I don't know if Pete was the one killed or not. His station was on a side of a mountain facing a valley and the mountain on the other side was enemy territory. Dad's job was sighting-in the artillery that shot from behind his mountain and over him into enemy territory. The enemy knew what Dad's platoon did and was always sniping at them, firing mortars and generally making life dangerous.

Talk about a "Tough Hombre". Carbine in hand, grenade on the belt.

I know Dad was proud of his service in Korea. He answered the call to serve his country. I would like to think I would do the same if I was needed in the same way, but until it actually happens you really never know how you would react. Dad never said this, but he was a real life hero - taking command of his squad under the conditions he did and serving in a dangerous position on the front lines of the war. Men like my Dad sacrificed so we can enjoy the life we do, in comfort, in safety, with the freedoms we have. I would like to honor our service men and women this Memorial Day and every day that I live in freedom. I am very grateful for all of them, especially Delmer E. Wallace.

I can't believe it's been so long since I did a post! I felt like I had an excuse for the week after mom's day because we left and were in AZ visiting while Josh was finishing up finals...and then I got sick with an AWFUL cold last week...not fun. But the trip was fun! We got to visit both of the Great Grandmas in Tucson and then it was on to Sierra Vista to see our FAVORITE cousins! (c; We had so much fun hanging out, even if the kids were INSANE from lack of sleep/being sick...correction: CADEN was insane, Skylar was an angel like she always is! Besides waking me up at 4am Arizona time...Anyways, picture time!

This is Grandma Park's "Farm"...really, it's just that she loves animals...but Caden thought all those animals were AWESOME! It was like his own personal petting zoo...

This is a shout out to all the absolutely FANTASTIC mothers that I have the priveledge of knowing...YOU ALL ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!! This day is just a little moment to remember all the labor, crying, diaper changing, feeding, cleaning, band/drama/orchestra performances, sports games, "boo-boos", car accidents, broken hearts, weddings that we couldn't have gotten through without our wonderful mothers...
I am so thankful for 5 mothers in particular: first and foremost, my own wonderful mom and the fabulous mom/friend she still is...my mom-in-law who is the BEST in-law a girl could ask for and just about the sweetest person on the planet...my little sister Karesy who became a mom before I did and showed me how wonderful motherhood is...and my two sweet grandmothers who have been a wonderful part of my life!!!!

So when I decided to have Skylar's six month pictures done, I knew I could pretty much plan on stuff going wrong that day. Optimistic, right? True to form, Skylar didn't get her nap that morning because Caden decided to go in and wake her up and she didn't sleep on the way there either because Caden kept *screaming* at the top of his lungs. Ah, the joys of motherhood. So really, I didn't have high hopes for this session...but lo and behold, in ten minutes (it probably would have been longer if Caden hadn't decided pictures were over by dumping Skylar on her face...) VOILA! The cutest pictures I could ever ask for...you would never know from those faces that they almost got sent to live with their grandma that day...***

***I am just joking, by the way!!! Stop calling CPS on me... hahaha(c:

Tats, Graffiti, Sittin' and Fishin'

Little Skylar hit another milestone...she can sit all by her lonesome! (c: It makes her look so big! *sniff* But she is still my little baby and has decided that anything that gets close to her gets grabbed. I must say it is a little annoying, Caden was never a grabby/touchy-feely baby, so I don't have a lot of experience with the evasive manuvering yet. The picture of her and Caden is of Caden holding her hand and her laughing, a very fleeting and rare sweet moment, so I had to catch it on film.

Just a little of what we've been doing to keep ourselves entertained...Caden got a bike "tattoo"...I have no idea why he was licking it...but it was funny. One of his favorite activities at Grandma Lisa's house is mowing the grass on the riding lawn mower...I can't imagine why, could it be because it requires machinery???

Yesterday we decided that we should drive through Placitas and up the back of the mountain. It is a GORGEOUS drive and we hadn't done it in a while so we packed up the little ones and headed out. When we got to the picnic site, we were so furious to discover that the gate was closed and locked because some JERKS had graffitied all over the bathrooms and everything else. ***Grrrr...*** Sometimes I just hate stupid people. But we parked outside the gate and hiked in because we had promised Caden he could "fish" in the stream. He had so much fun just casting out into this stream and reeling it in...but after a while he did catch on that he wasn't actually catching anything! But it was just one of those just nice and relaxing afternoons with the fam...

If you have not been to the aquarium lately, they just opened their "petting zoo"...no really, the "shark and sting ray experience" where you can touch them! Hopefully the nazi lady won't be there lecturing everyone and yelling at anyone who didn't follow all of her mile long list of rules...)c:

So for a good laugh about my borderline out-of-control brain squeezer, you would have to visit the blog "mormon in manhattan"...it pretty much says it all. I still love them. Skylar deals with it well...

Okay, I promise after this that I will do an actual post with my own pictures...but this is so awesome!!! My friend, Lisa, had this on her blog and I just loved it. Apparently this Matt guy was a video game designer and one day decided he didn't like his job and decided to do this:

Not only is this just so awesome/touching/amazing...but it just makes me more determined to do the things I love....I guess he did an original video and then a major gum company approached him and sponsored this one...makes me want to travel! I got teary eyed on the shot from Sao Paulo, Brasil...it makes me want to go back...

I love spring!!! Look how A-MAZING these tulips at the zoo are...it was just such a good photo-op, but Caden wouldn't sit still, this was the only way to get him to smile...little stinker.
The fam in their Easter best...this was the first picture....Caden was a little busy with his Easter candy...too much fun, what does that mean????? It's like too much candy, there's no such thing...

Josh shocked the heck out of me by WILLINGLY not only wearing a pink tie, but by having the idea in the first place and buying it himself! (c:

Aren't these fun? (c: Even after Josh had worked at his job and gone to a full day of school that put him home at 9pm, he brought me these flowers because he knew I had I tough day, along with Jelly Bellies because I always need sugar. (c: What a good guy!!! But I must say that my favorite "pick-me-up" came from Caden...I was looking something up on the internet and a page popped up with a model on a runway and he got a big smile on his face, pointed and said "It's mommy!". (c: It's always good to know that even on the days you feel like crud, your two year-old still thinks you are great!***
